Fifty 50 Family was founded by Philani “PMP”Ndlovu and Sihle “Ma7” Mazibuko. Who both grew up in the outer skirts of KZN: Ladysmith and Estcourt. Both are related as cousins, and by spending more time together from a young age, music became their topic, till the two started a kwaito duo, that performed in local surrounding areas of their place of It was about this time where they came into contact with Siyabonga “Mawat” Xulu and Melusi “Sheppard” Mbola, who were already committed and serving in the church, and who were good friends already. Mawat, who was born-again in late 2002, and was already producing and writing music with his brother (who later both started: Set Free Records). Mawat moved to JHB in late 2005 leaving the life in DBN in search for a better life in JHB. In 2006 Mawat returned to DBN with a motivated force, started to be also committed in the church’s youth Drama department, and his first show, was an act of reciting poetry to the youth, and this is when he met Sheppard. Sheppard was already involve in the church’s (Durban Christian Centre) youth drama department. Being in the school’s scathamiya’s group in his school life, in the streets of Estcourt. And because of the life of misbehaving, he got involved in the (Estcourt) local kwaito group called: B.O.K. He then moved back to Umlazi (his hometown) for his young adulthood. And with the hunger to change his life, he came back to God in 2004, after being backslidden since 1998. Once again DCC, was his home, and this where his grooming started, being involved in the church’s feeding scheme, his serving was not gone unnoticed, and he was then appointed as the leader for the church’s drama youth department in 2005. With a pursue to live out his inner love of music and drama, but now in God, the department allowed him a platform to display his talent, which kindled a lot of flames, and brought him closer with the other members to make the Fifty 50 Family, team. With Durban Christian Centre, being the dish with each of us ate from, networking and sharing gift and talents was made easy , and by doing this we grew stronger as group of friends. Our taste in music was similar and we grew closer. Fifty 50 Family was then born, from this musically and scripturally brotherly relationship that was already built by the four of us. With a hunger to impact the youth with the gospel in a relevant musical way, Fifty 50 Family was then certified a kwaito/hip-hop gospel group. Fifty 50 Family is based on a scripture Isaiah1:18-20
